ARTERIAL SALTING OPERATION
ROCKFORD – March 25, 2023 – The City of Rockford Public Works Department began salting
arterial routes at 4:30 AM. Decisions about further deployment will be made as needed,
according to developing conditions.
Citizens are urged to follow at a safe distance behind snowplows. This will prevent the salt that
is being spread from hitting your vehicle and the added distance also allows a driver room to
back up if needed.
Please be patient.
The snow is going to be falling hard and fast.
Road conditions are going to be poor.
The street departments are out working diligently to keep our streets safe.
Also, please do not park on the road. If you have to, then remember the odd and even parking rules.
The last few snowfalls, the police have cited several vehicles for illegally parking on the road.
Moderate to heavy snow is falling early this morning across parts of far northern Illinois.
As a result, roads are quickly becoming snow-covered.
Expect snow to continue through much of the morning and take extra caution if you encounter snow while driving.
...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM CDT THIS AFTERNOON... * WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches. North to northwest winds gusting as high as 35 mph. * WHERE...Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Lake IL and Ogle Counties. * WHEN...Until 1 PM CDT this afternoon. * IMPACTS...Roads will become snow covered and travel will become difficult for a period this morning during the period of heaviest snow. The combination of heavy wet snow and gusty winds may result in downed tree limbs and sporadic power outages. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow rates up to 2 inches per hour are likely early this morning. The expected heavy, wet nature of the snow will make shoveling hazardous. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
