Meet Sabrina, our daughter, born with a rare defect called Bilateral Choanal atresia. We are Andrew & Katy Helton, her loving parents.

She was born in Rockford IL on Feb 25th, where she spent 2 days until transported to UW Madison WI. she spent a total of 16 days in the nicu, for the first 5 of those days she was on a ventilator and unable to eat except for the nutrients pumped through her IV. When she finally underwent surgery..

I wish I could say that journey is over, but we have many follow up appointments in Madison and Sabrina requires extra care for some of her issues. We are so happy and grateful that we can care for her at home earlier than We expected.

We also have a 2 yr old Son to take care of, we’re thankful to family who have been giving him extra attention while we get our baby girl Sabrina’s routines in order.

however, there’s Still lots to learn and get used to. Between general babieness and joy, There is a lot of at home care we have to do for her nose and blood pressure, as well as weekly/monthly check ups but it will be wonderful having her at home and I would think that would be good for her blood pressure too.

the traveling and therapies we’ll need to support her, time off work, and figuring out how to afford some appointments, as the Doctors aren’t all “in network” for insurance so they’ll not cover it.

Every day, our daughter faces the challenges of bilateral choanal atresia—a rare medical condition. As parents, we are dedicated to providing her with the best care and support she needs to overcome these obstacles. We believe in the power of community and compassion to make a difference in her life. By coming together and standing by her side, we can give her the strength and resources she requires to thrive.
