Our Opinion; On What Allegedly May Have Happened
Based on the current information that has been provided to us
RPD Release:
On Saturday, July 29, 2023, at approximately 5:50
p.m., Rockford Police officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of N. Day Avenue for
reports of shots fired. Officers were advised that Malik Williams was allegedly involved in a fight
and shots fired incident in Beloit, Wisconsin. He also allegedly stole a car and a handgun during
the fight and drove to the residence on N. Day Avenue in Rockford. While Williams was outside of
the residence, a silver SUV pulled up next to him, and the rear passenger of the SUV fired towards
Williams. He exited the car and fired back towards the SUV, striking several occupied and
unoccupied cars, and then drove off. A short time later, officers located the stolen car at a
residence in the 1200 block of Preston Street. After a brief stand-off with Williams at this address,
he exited the residence, and was taken into custody. During the investigation, two handguns
were recovered from inside the residence, including the stolen gun from Beloit.
