One of the victims involved is reaching out to the community to thank the person who called 911 and was able to get emergency personnel to the scene and save her life.

UPDATE: Public records show Stanley Turner, the man who allegedly robbed the Dollar Tree last night and had a several hour standoff, has a long criminal history including 2nd degree murder. Turner pleaded guilty to 2nd Degree Murder in 2014
From RPD: On Sunday, shortly after 9 p.m., Rockford Police officers responded to Dollar Tree (6340 E. State St.) for a possible robbery in progress. Everyone inside the store made it out, but officers learned the male suspect was still inside with what appeared to be a firearm. Officers are working to make contact with the suspect at this time. The incident is ongoing and more information will be released when possible. Please avoid the area.
RPD, SWAT, RFD and many other officers are on scene. The SWAT team is trying to communicate with someone inside the Dollar Tree.
The business is surrounded by many officers.
Police said there is an armed man inside the business, armed with a handgun. This was originally called in as a robbery in progress around 9 pm.
Officers saw the armed man running inside the store with a gun.
No other details at this time.
Sources are reporting approx. 20 police officers with their guns drawn at a business on the East side.
It happened at the Dollar Tree/Pet Smart area on E State.
Sources said there is 20 + police officers on scene and they all have their guns drawn.
It is not yet clear what is going on. But it is obviously a dangerous situation. So please avoid the area.

Update from source: They brought in some big swat tank and multiple squads from different areas with many of them outside the doors between petsmart and dollar tree
Officials have said that Sgt. Matt Kranz, a 17 year veteran of the Rockford Police Department, as the officer who killed Kerry Blake. He has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome
Rockford Police said after several hours of negotiations with an alleged suspect, they tossed in some tear gas a few times, then the SWAT team went inside the residence and tried to arrest the alleged suspect. Police say the suspect then assaulted the officers that went inside to arrest him and then one of the officers fired his gun, killing the mentally ill suspect. An officer was also injured, unknown on the severity of the injuries. (RPD)
Update: RPD said via their call log there was an Aggravated Battery at 1126 Green st, same area as this incident. Possibly related.
Shots were confirmed fired at the scene, unknown at this time who fired the shots. Neighbors said police fired the shots and killed a person inside the residence. Neighbors said the victim was mentally ill.
RPD has not released any information on this, and are very quiet on this situation.
Several sources are reporting a large police presence on the west side of Rockford, working a scene.
They said it appears to be a police standoff, possible hostage situation near Green st. near Stanley area

Barricaded Suspect, SWAT Team On Scene
UPDATE: RPD said this is a warrant service. No other information at this time.
Sources reporting a man has barricaded himself inside an apartment complex in Rockford.
It happened near Sage Drive. That is off of E Riverside area.
Numerous police are on scene and a sniper and the SWAT team.
It is not yet known why the subject has barricaded themselves.
We were told by a source, the man did not actually barricade himself, but only simply refused to answer the door for the police over a warrant. And now police are saying he barricaded himself. So it is unknown if the suspect just simply did not answer the door for police, or if the man really did barricade himself.
Several officers are out with their rifles, a snip, and numerous police. This is a very dangerous situation and we recommend you avoiding the area.
On June 2, 2018 at 5:30 a.m. officers of the Rockford Police Department responded to the 900 block of N. Rockton reference a shot fired. Upon arrival officers met with a woman who reported a female just shot at her. The victim said the suspect went into a house in the area after the shooting. While on scene, officers met with people in the area who reported there may be other subjects in the house with the shooting suspect. Officers surrounded the house and attempted to call out the occupants. There was no response. Members of the Rockford Police Department Negotiations Unit and SWAT Team were called out to assist. At 10:15 a.m. the suspect in the shooting, Dominique Patterson, came to the Winnebago County Criminal Justice Center and requested to talk to the police. She was taken to District Two-Detective Bureau.
Officers remained on scene in the 900 block of N. Rockton and at 11:40 a.m. another subject, Larry Gary, came out of the house. A search of the home resulted in the recovery of one gun and a quantity of ammunition. A second gun was recovered in a nearby yard. Both guns were reported stolen.
Members of the Rockford Police Department Detective Bureau continued the investigation. The results of investigation were reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. The following charges were authorized:

The charges against the suspects are merely accusations and not evidence of their guilt. As with defendants in all criminal cases they are considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Starting around 6 am, an RS Fan contacted us about a possible shooting and now standoff at Rockton Ave and Bruce St.
The road Rockton Ave is closed from Bruce to Whitman.
It is reported that a female in a house nearby shot a male. We can not confirm this though, this is only speculation at this time.
As of 9:39 am, the standoff/negotiations were still ongoing.
Several Rockford Police and the SWAT team are on the scene.

Around 11 pm tonight officers had a house surrounded on Latham in Rockford.
Sources report that a person was allegedly wanted by police.
Police were trying to negotiate with a subject inside the residence.
A subject took off on foot from the police, several officers were in hot pursuit of the alleged suspect and they were able to easily tackle and subdue to the alleged wanted suspect.
It is not yet known what the suspect was wanted for. But there is one person that police did take into custody.
