Rockford Scanner™: Woman Crashes While Avoiding A Deer, Arrested For DUI

On 12/06/18 at 8:18 p.m., Ogle County Sheriff’s Deputies along with Byron Fire/EMS were dispatched to IL Rt. 2 at Camling Rd. for a two vehicle crash. After an investigation, it was discovered that Andrea Arwood, age 29 of Rockford, had crossed over the center line while traveling northbound on Rt. 2 after swerving to miss a deer.

Arwood and the driver of the other vehicle were both transported to Rockford Memorial Hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

Arwood was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and she was released on a $3,000 I-bond.

Rockford Scanner™: One Person Arrested After A Serious Accident Near Byron

On October 6th, 2018, Deputies, along with Byron Fire/EMS personnel, responded to the 12000 block of Kennedy Hill Rd for a one vehicle accident.

Both occupants were transported by Byron Ambulance to RMH for treatment of serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

At the hospital, the driver of the vehicle, Mitchell A. Wessels, 33 of Sterling, was charged with Driving Under the Influence and Driving While License Suspended, and cited for Operating Uninsured Vehicle and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident. He was released in IBond.

The passenger, Lucas W. Hopkins, 37, of Rockford, was cited for Failure to Wear Seatbelt and given a civil citation for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Police Officer Involved In An Accident


We wish one of our officers well as he is recovering from minor injuries after the squad car he was driving was t-boned at the intersection of Hackett and North streets around 6:30 p.m.  (Sunday).

Our officer was traveling northbound on Hackett Street when the accident occurred. Witnesses reported the driver of the other vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed on North Street before the accident occurred.

The driver is in custody and is being evaluated for a possible operating while intoxicated charge; the Rock County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident.
