Rockford Scanner™: Standoff Near Poplar Grove

UPDATE:

 

On September 7, 2019, at approximately 2:50 pm, Boone County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 400 block of West Edson Street, Poplar Grove, for a possible suicidal subject. Deputies arrived and began speaking with the subject who was very uncooperative. The subject threatened and pointed a rifle at deputies multiple times during the incident. Deputies secured the area and a team of negotiators from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and Belvidere Police Department began to negotiate with the subject.

The team of negotiators continued to speak with the subject for over 7 ½ hours. At one point in the negotiations, the subject did fire one shot. At approximately 10:45 pm, the subject surrendered and was taken into custody by the Belvidere SWAT team, which is made up of Belvidere Police Officers and Boone County Sheriff’s Deputies. The subject was later transported to Mercy Hospital for a medical evaluation.

Boone County Sheriff’s Detectives executed a search warrant at the subject’s residence. Detectives recovered two rifles and a handgun. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the case. There were no injuries during this incident.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Belvidere Police Department and Capron Rescue Squad for their assistance during the standoff. The Sheriff’s office would also like to thank the citizen of this neighborhood for their patience and generosity during this very stressful event.


Around 3:30 pm the police were dispatched to a possible barricaded suicidal subject on W Edson st in Poplar Grove.

The Boone County deputies, Belvidere Police, Capron Rescue squad all assisted. They secured the scene.

The police negotiators peacefully negotiated with the subject for approx. 6 hours, and were able to take the subject into custody.

OFFICERS THREATENED: Charges are pending against a Rockford woman who threatened to harm herself and officers with a knife. The woman refused to comply with officers’ demands to drop her weapon, and less-lethal use of force alternatives were utilized to take her into custody.








 

Rockford Scanner™: Man Holds Police At Bay in Rockford, While Standing On Garage Roof





Just before 9 pm tonight several officers were working a scene on the West side. 

It happened on Central, just North of School st.

Initial reports are saying there is a suicidal subject with a hand injury near this location.

The man climbed up on top of his garage and was screaming at the police. He was saying he just wanted to be left alone. The man had experienced a tragedy recently. He told the police to get off his property.  And was screaming other things at the police as well.
(Some we can not put in the article, we will just say he wasn’t happy with the police being there)

Several officers had the garage surrounded.

Around 11:30 pm, the scene was clear.
Unknown how the man came down.

Rockford Scanner™: Stand Off On The East Side, Still Developing




 

Sources are reporting 9 police squad cars at a scene on the East side, around 1:30 pm today. 

It is the 2nd house south of Grant Park blvd and Brooke. 

Police are currently at a standoff. A wanted suspect is held up in the garage area of the residence.

Numerous police officers are on scene. 

Negotiations are currently ongoing. 

This is still developing, avoid the area.

Rockford Scanner™: Police Standoff With A Shooting Suspect, Neighbors Evacuated




N. CHURCH UPDATE: Shortly before 9 p.m., the suspect inside the residence on N. Church Street surrendered peacefully and is now in custody.

 


Sources are reporting a scene on N Church st in Rockford.

SWAT TEAM and numerous officers have the alleged shooting suspect (Mykel Curry) cornered in a house in the 1900 block of N Church.

Police have evacuated the neighbors in the area.
Neighbors are reporting 1 gunshot that was heard, unknown if it was from the suspect or the police.

This is a very dangerous situation, neighbors have been evacuated. Avoid the area. Check back later for updates.

Update from the RPD:


Sources are reporting a standoff in Rockford.

It is currently happening at Maple and Horsman.

Numerous police, command center, SWAT vehicle, etc… are all on scene.

This is still developing, avoid the area. This is a very dangerous situation.

Sources told us this started around 11:30 am when police were trying to serve a warrant at 719 Maple st.

RPD has yet to release information.

The other day a man allegedly tried to rob the Dollar Tree on  E State st.

One of the victims involved is reaching out to the community to thank the person who called 911 and was able to get emergency personnel to the scene and save her life.

UPDATE:

Officials have said that Sgt. Matt Kranz, a 17 year veteran of the Rockford Police Department,  as the officer who killed Kerry Blake. He has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome




Rockford Police said after several hours of negotiations with an alleged suspect, they tossed in some tear gas a few times, then the SWAT team went inside the residence and tried to arrest the alleged suspect. Police say the suspect then assaulted the officers that went inside to arrest him and then one of the officers fired his gun, killing the mentally ill suspect. An officer was also injured, unknown on the severity of the injuries.  (RPD)


Update: RPD said via their call log there was an Aggravated Battery at 1126 Green st, same area as this incident.  Possibly related.


Shots were confirmed fired at the scene, unknown at this time who fired the shots. Neighbors said police fired the shots and killed a person inside the residence.  Neighbors said the victim was mentally ill.

RPD has not released any information on this, and are very quiet on this situation.


Several sources are reporting a large police presence on the west side of Rockford, working a scene.

They said it appears to be a police standoff, possible hostage situation near Green st. near Stanley area

Numerous police officers, Chief OShea, SWAT, Swat vehicles and a sniper are all on scene.

We have someone from RS en route to the scene to get more information

RPD has yet to confirm this, but neighbors said the alleged suspect might have committed a carjacking this afternoon that involved children.  That is why the RPD was first went to the residence, while investigating the carjacking at Stanley and Green

Barricaded Suspect, SWAT Team On Scene

 

UPDATE: RPD said this is a warrant service.  No other information at this time.

 


 

Sources reporting a man has barricaded himself inside an apartment complex in Rockford.

It happened near Sage Drive.  That is off of E Riverside area.

Numerous police are on scene and a sniper and the SWAT team.

It is not yet known why the subject has barricaded themselves.

We were told by a source, the man did not actually barricade himself, but only simply refused to answer the door for the police over a warrant. And now police are saying he barricaded himself. So it is unknown if the suspect just simply did not answer the door for police, or if the man really did barricade himself.

Several officers are out with their rifles, a snip, and numerous police. This is a very dangerous situation and we recommend you avoiding the area.

UPDATE: RPD call log said it was a warrant service. Jose Trejo was arrested for drug charges stemming back in 2017.  He was charged with five counts of distributing cocaine from July to September 2017.  He is considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.


Sources reporting numerous police officers and the SWAT team and animal control working a scene. It happened near Cunningham and Pierpont.

Sounds like it is a possible standoff or raid, but not confirmed.
