Note: This is the 2nd accident tonight that involves a Winnebago County Sheriff officer.

Sources said the officers were responding to a possible armed suspect call in the 1200 block of 7th st.  when the accident happened. 

 Brief Synopsis: 

Sources are reporting a police officer involved accident that happened at approximately 2:20 this morning in the area of 7th Street and 1st Avenue in Rockford.

Details are minimal at this time, but the squad vehicle was reported to have been on fire after possibly running into a building.

It is unknown at this time what caused the accident, no injuries were reported, no one was transported by ambulance.

Officers from the Rockford Police Department and the Illinois State Police and the Rockford Fire Department are all at the scene of this accident.

Please avoid the area at this time.

*7th Street between 1st Avenue and Charles Street will be closed for the next few hours at least.*
