The mental health crisis in this country is something that simply cannot be ignored. Many of our adults and children are suffering from trauma and unable to access services they need for healing and support
At the City of Rockford, we are committed to addressing the mental health needs of our community in meaningful and impactful ways. We currently are the recipients of four grants from the Winnebago County Community Mental Health Board that help with these efforts. These grants are funded through a half-cent sales tax approved by the residents of Winnebago County in March 2020.
Over the next several months, I will highlight each of these vital programs, showcasing the incredible work being done to support mental wellness in our community.
In the video below, you’ll learn more about our Crisis-Co Response Team (CCRT). CCRT is a collaboration between the Rockford Police Department, Loves Park Police Department, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and Rosecrance. The team promotes safe encounters between individuals in crisis and law enforcement through a co-responder model that pairs mental health clinicians with law enforcement to respond to mental health police calls for service and follow up care afterwards.
