A 14-year-old is in custody after an attempted robbery was reported just after 6pm last night in the 1700 block of Park Avenue.
The victim was getting gas when the suspect, who was armed with a handgun and driving a Jeep, attempted to steal the victim’s vehicle.
When the suspect realized there were children in the vehicle, the suspect fled from the scene in the Jeep without stealing the victim’s vehicle.
A Beloit police officer located the Jeep, which was also stolen, and pursued it into Illinois.
The pursuit was terminated by our agency in Rockford. A Winnebago County Sheriff’s Officer located and stop sticked the vehicle at Andrews and Oakwood streets in Rockford.
The vehicle crashed and the suspect was taken into custody. A firearm was located in the vehicle.
No injuries occurred from the attempted robbery or the crash in Rockford.
The 14-year-old suspect is in custody in Winnebago County; the suspect was arrested for attempted armed robbery, recklessly endangering safety, felony fleeing, and possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under age 18.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
