Allegedly What May Have Happened: High Rise Structure Fire
Alleged Approx. Location: 111 W State Street, Luther Center Apts
Alleged Approx. Time: 2:45 pm
At approximately 2:45 this afternoon emergency personnel were called to 111 W State Street, at the Luther Center Apartments, for reports of a possible structure fire.
Initial reports indicated that smoke is visible on the 9th floor. The Rockford Fire Department confirmed once on scene that this is a working structure fire.
We received reports that some of the sprinkler heads are allegedly missing and possibly not working during this fire.
The power was reported to be out from a 5th floor resident currently on oxygen. Some occupants are also said to be in wheelchairs and have no means for evacuating the building.
The elevators have reportedly been checked and nobody was reported to be trapped inside during this fire.
The cause of the fire is unknown. This is a developing situation. We will post an update as information becomes available.
Avoid the area awhile or expect possible delays.
UPDATE: A firefighter was transported by ambulance to the hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.
