PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING ANNOUNCED FOR
SOUTH ALPINE ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
Open House to introduce study of corridor; information available at ReimagineAlpineRoad.org
ROCKFORD – The City of Rockford, in partnership with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), is holding an in-person open house public information meeting to introduce the South Alpine Road study on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025. The meeting will present the study information and processes, review existing conditions, receive public feedback and share information about public involvement opportunities.
The public is encouraged to attend the meeting at any time between 4 and 7 p.m. at Forest City Church, 1280 S. Alpine Road., Rockford, IL. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide direct feedback to the study team, as well as view exhibit boards and a looping video presentation detailing the study. Presented materials will be made available following the meeting on the project website: ReimagineAlpineRoad.org.
Participants will also have the opportunity to fill out comment forms at the public information meeting or at ReimagineAlpineRoad.org to provide input or ask questions.
Public comments received by Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025, will become part of the meeting record.
The study is being conducted to evaluate and recommend improvements to approximately 2.5 miles of the corridor, from Linden Road to just north of Charles Street. South Alpine Road has been identified as one of Rockford’s roads in greatest need of improvements and repair, particularly in regard to safety and modality.
The study was launched in Fall 2024 and is currently in Phase I: Preliminary Engineering & Environmental Studies. The phase is expected to conclude in Summer 2027, pending design approval, and will be followed by Phase II: Detailed Design and Land Acquisition and Phase III: Construction. Phase I is funded through the State of Illinois with the expectation that federal funding will be pursued for the following engineering and construction phases.
