On October 8, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Rockford Police
officers were in the area of Guilford and Mulford Roads when they were flagged down
for reports of shots fired from vehicles and then subsequently witnessed a traffic crash
between one of the vehicles and a vehicle unrelated to the incident. The offending
vehicle was reported as stolen and observed to be struck by gunfire. Multiple subjects
ran from the stolen vehicle and two were taken into custody a short time later. A third
subject was located nearby with a non-life-threatening graze wound and was also taken
into custody. During the investigation, officers located two loaded handguns, one with
an extended magazine, from inside the stolen vehicle.
After a review of the facts of the case, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office
authorized the charges listed below.

(lodged in County Jail) Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon

Possession of a Stolen Auto
Resisting Arrest
Unlawful Use of a Weapon Warrant
Juvenile Male, 16, Rockford
Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon
(lodged in Juvenile Detention) No Valid FOID
Possession of a Stolen Auto
Resisting Arrest
Juvenile Male, 17, Rockford
Possession of a Stolen Auto
(lodged in Juvenile Detention) Possession of Burglary Tools
Rockford Police officers were later notified of a robbery minutes before the above
incident involving the same individuals. A teenage male met up with the subjects for an
online purchase transaction and entered the backseat of the stolen vehicle involved in
the later incident. He was pushed out of that vehicle and was partially run over. As the
stolen vehicle was leaving the area, two unknown subjects entered another vehicle and
chased the stolen vehicle. Shortly after, the two vehicles were observed exchanging
gunfire at Guilford and Mulford Roads.
After a review of the facts of the case, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office
authorized the charges listed below.

Juvenile Male, 16, Rockford
Armed Robbery
(lodged in Juvenile Detention)
Juvenile Male, 17, Rockford

As with all investigations, there may be additional charges and arrests.
The charges are merely accusations and all individuals are considered innocent unless
proven guilty in a court of law.
