The Rockford Police Department announces the results of the
October 2023-September 2024 Additional Traffic Enforcement Campaign +
Awarding of STEP Grant for 2024-2025
Rockford, IL – The Rockford Police Department participated in the Additional Enforcement
IDOT Campaign from October 1, 2023 – September 30, 2024. During that time,
Officers/Investigators worked 338.5 hours of additional enforcement and issued 781 citations.
The breakdown is as follows:
Seatbelt Citations – Front Seat 34
Seatbelt Citations – Rear Seat 4
Car Seat Violation Citations 12
DUI – Alcohol Arrests 6
DUI – Drugs Arrests 1
DUI – Alcohol/Drug Combination Arrests 2
Speeding Citations 177
Distracted Driving Citations 14
Suspended/Revoked/No DL Citations 65
Criminal Arrests 5
All Other Citations 466
Total Vehicles Stopped 430

Also, the Rockford Police Department announced it has been awarded a Federal Fiscal Year 2025
Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant to conduct additional traffic safety
enforcement efforts. The STEP program focuses on high-visibility enforcement and strategies
aimed at saving lives and preventing injuries by reducing traffic crashes.
During the STEP grant year, which runs from Oct. 1, 2024, through Sept. 30, 2025, the Rockford
Police Department will conduct additional enforcement efforts to supplement mandatory and
optional campaign enforcement dates scheduled during some of the deadliest times of the year.
The additional efforts will focus on the leading contributory causes of crashes: speeding,
impaired driving, electronic device use, failure to yield, and disobeying traffic control signals, as
well as occupant restraint violations.
The STEP grant is funded by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois
Department of Transportation.
