SHOOTING:
Multiple Shooting Victims
at a Scene in Rockford
Murder at MaxMart on Kilburn Avenue/School Street
ROCKFORD, IL – On Friday, September 27, 2024, at approximately 10:08 p.m., Rockford
Police officers responded to MaxMart (922 Kilburn Avenue) for reports of two shooting
victims. When officers arrived, they located a 30-year-old man and a 34-year-old man
suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both were transported to local hospitals where
the 30-year-old man succumbed to his injuries. Witnesses advised that a verbal fight was
taking place between a group of people and a male suspect shot toward both male
victims and then drove away from the area. A short time later, the suspect vehicle was
located by Illinois State Police at the Belvidere Oasis and the driver and sole occupant,
Murphy Doss, was taken into custody and lodged in the County Jail. A handgun and
ammunition were located and recovered from inside the vehicle.
After a review of the facts of the case, The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office
authorized the charges listed below.
Murphy Doss, 51, Rockford
First-Degree Murder (2 counts)
Attempted Murder (2 counts)
Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon
As with any investigations, there may be further charges at a later date.
The charges are merely accusations and all individuals are considered innocent unless
proven guilty in a court of law.

around 10:15 pm tonight
Several shots were fired
in the 900 block of Kilburn.
Initial reports are saying
two people have been shot.
At a nearby business.
Unknown on the severity of the injuries.
Still developing.
Update:
Both victims were having life saving
measures being performed on them.
Life threatening injuries
SHOOTING INVESTIGATION:
Two adult men were shot at Kilburn Ave and School St (MaxMart).
Both were transported to local hospitals with life-threatening injuries.
