On Monday, June 24, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Rockford Police SCOPE
officers located a vehicle getting gas at the Fas Fuel gas station on Harrison Avenue that had
previously fled from officers on multiple occasions. When SCOPE officers approached the vehicle,
the driver, identified as Steve Taylor, entered the vehicle and attempted to drive away. He then
proceeded to ram three RPD squad cars in the process. Taylor was taken into custody after a brief
struggle. Taylor, along with a SCOPE officer, was treated and released from a local hospital for
minor injuries. During the investigation, SCOPE officers located a loaded firearm with two
magazines (one was extended), cannabis, and Ecstasy pills. Taylor was subsequently lodged in the
County Jail.

After a review of the facts of the case, The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized
the charges listed below.

Steve Taylor, 36, Rockford

Armed Violence
Unlawful Use of a Weapon
Aggravated Fleeing to Elude
Criminal Damage to Government Property (3 counts)
Aggravated Resisting Arrest
Violation of the Controlled Substance Act
Revoked Driver’s License
Outstanding Warrants (2)

The charges are merely accusations and all individuals are considered innocent unless proven
guilty in a court of law.
