On Saturday, June 8, 2024, at approximately
11:20 a.m., Rockford Police officers were in 200 block of Highland Avenue when they located and
recovered a discarded handgun, but no suspects at the time. A short time later, officers returned
to the area for additional reports of suspicious persons when multiple subjects fled, and two
juveniles were taken into custody.

After a review of the facts of the case, The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized
the following charges.

Juvenile Male, 16, Rockford

Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon
(lodged in Juvenile Detention)
Obstructing

Juvenile Male, 15, Rockford

Obstructing
(released to parent/guardian)
