Sad update/confirmation from the small child drowning we reported on Saturday.
A 3-year-old boy died over the weekend after drowning in the family’s backyard pool.
According to the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office, the boy was visiting a family members home in the 9000 block of Longfellow Lane, in Machesney Park, on Saturday, May 18th.
At around 4 pm, the child was found unresponsive in the family pool, authorities said. CPR was started as rescue personnel responded to the scene, but he was pronounced dead at a local hospital at 5:22 p.m.
An autopsy confirmed the cause of death was drowning.
Authorities said the boy was visiting from Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating, and no charges have been announced as of the writing of this update.
Allegedly What May Have Happened: Small child possible drowning victim
Alleged Approx. Location: 9000 block of Longfellow Ln/Machesney Park
Alleged Approx. Time: 4:00 pm
At approximately 4:00 this afternoon emergency personnel were called to the 9000 block of Longfellow Lane, in Machesney Park, for reports of a small child possibly drowning.
Initial reports are this was a child under five years old. The child was removed from the water and life saving measures were being performed.
The child has reportedly been transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
Avoid the area as multiple police and emergency vehicles are on scene…
