Multiple Rockford Juveniles Charged

AGGRAVATED UNLAWFUL USE OF A WEAPON – On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at approximately 2:00
p.m., Rockford Police SCOPE officers responded to the 2300 block of N. Rockton Avenue in
reference to a group of males attempting to steal vehicles. SCOPE officers located the group near
the 3000 block of Ridgeway Avenue and attempted to stop them. Three of the four suspects ran
off, but officers located them a short time later. Two 17-year-old males and a 16-year-old male
were taken into custody and lodged in Juvenile Detention. During the investigation, officers
located and recovered a loaded handgun with an extended magazine.
The facts of this case were reviewed with The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office, and
the charges below were authorized.

AGGRAVATED UNLAWFUL USE OF A WEAPON – On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at approximately 5:10 p.m., Rockford Police SCOPE officers were in the 600 block of Winnebago Street when they observed two juvenile males walking in the roadway. When officers attempted to stop them, one of the individuals ran from the officers. The 17-year-old juvenile male was taken into custody a short time later and lodged in Juvenile Detention. Officers located and recovered a defaced loaded handgun during the investigation. The other juvenile, a 15-year-old male, was released at the scene.

The facts of this case were reviewed with The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office, and
the charges below were authorized.
