Rockford Man Charged with Multiple Weapon Offenses
ARMED HABITUAL CRIMINAL – On Thursday, February 29, 2024, at approximately 8:32 p.m.,
Rockford Police SCOPE officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Sablewood
Drive and Sitka Lane. When officers arrived to the area, they observed a vehicle with a suspended
registration and as they attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle fled from officers at a
high rate of speed. A short time later, officers located the vehicle after it struck a retaining wall
on a N. Second Street exit ramp. The driver, Demario Flemming, ran from officers, but was taken
into custody after a brief struggle. During the investigation, SCOPE officers located and recovered
a loaded handgun.
After a review of the facts of the case, The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office
authorized the charge listed below.
Demario Flemming, 44, Rockford
Armed Habitual Criminal
Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon
Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon
Aggravated Fleeing to Elude
Resisting Arrest (2 counts)
As with any investigations, further details and charges may come at a later date.
The charges are merely accusations and all individuals are considered innocent unless proven
guilty in a court of law.
