Two Rockford Men Charged for 2023 Murder
ROCKFORD, IL – On February 9, 2023, Rockford Police officers responded to the area of 1st Avenue and Charles Street for a report of a traffic crash.
Upon arrival, officers observed 26-year- old Joshua Ewing
suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local
hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Directly before the crash, officers received calls
regarding shots fired in the area of Chestnut and Winnebago Streets.
Witnesses observed an occupant of a white SUV shooting out of the window towards the victim’s car.
26-year-old son Josh was running errands that morning near S. Winnebago and Chestnut St. in Rockford
when someone started firing at him from inside a white SUV reportedly stolen out of Chicago.
The SUV, reported stolen out of Chicago, was located, unoccupied,
a short time later near Delaware Street and Newport Avenue.

The Rockford Police Gang Crime Unit continued to investigate this incident and identified two
suspects, Michael Blue and Dezha Manning. The facts of this case were reviewed with the
Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office and the charges below were authorized. Both Blue
and Manning are currently in the Winnebago County Jail on unrelated charges.
