We are saying 7 inches…
What is your guess?

* WHAT...Heavy snow and blowing snow possible. Total snow
accumulations of greater than 6 inches possible. Winds could
gust as high as 50 mph.

* WHERE...Portions of north central and northeast Illinois.

* WHEN...From late tonight through Saturday morning.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be dangerous. Areas of blowing snow could
significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will
likely impact both Friday commutes. Gusty winds could bring down
tree branches and power lines. Rapidly falling temperatures
Friday night may lead to a flash freeze on untreated surfaces.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The strongest winds with the potential for
periods of blizzard conditions are expected Friday evening into
  early Saturday.

Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of North Central
Illinois...Northeast Illinois and Northwest Indiana.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.

Weather hazards expected...

  Limited Snow Risk.

Snow is expected to spread across the area late tonight into
early Friday morning. The snow may be briefly heavy during the
predawn hours Friday morning. A few inches of snow accumulation
is possible, mainly along and northwest of I-57.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.

  Elevated Non Thunderstorm Wind Risk.
Significant Snow and Blowing Snow Risk.
  Elevated Lakeshore Flood Risk.
  Elevated Excessive Cold Risk.
  Limited Non Thunderstorm Wind Risk.
Limited Snow and Blowing Snow Risk.
  Elevated Lakeshore Flood Risk.
Sunday through Tuesday...
  Significant Excessive Cold Risk.
  Limited Lakeshore Flood Risk.
Limited River Flooding Risk Due to Ice Jams.
  Elevated Excessive Cold Risk.
Limited River Flooding Risk Due to Ice Jams.

A winter storm will impact the area Friday into Saturday.
Several inches of accumulating snow in combination with strong
winds may result in dangerous travel across the area into
Saturday, though considerable uncertainty remains regarding the
storm track and rain/snow line location. The heaviest snow is
expected north of I-80, with lower totals near Lake Michigan.

Strong northwest winds may gust between 40 mph and 50 mph Friday
night causing significant blowing and drifting snow. These strong
winds will also allow for high waves on Lake Michigan and the
potential for minor lake shore flooding, mainly along the
northwest Indiana shoreline.

Much colder air will spread across the region this weekend and
continue into next week, producing dangerously cold wind chills
from 20 below to 30 below zero.

River ice is expected to rapidly build up on area rivers Sunday
into early next week as a much colder arctic airmass moves into
the area. This will bring a threat for ice jam related flooding
on area rivers into next week.

Spotter activation will not be necessary through tonight.
