Allegedly What May Have Happened: Battery & Shots Fired
Location: Area of Meriday Ln and Jacqueline Dr
Time: Around midnight
Around midnight last night there were reports of a battery and shots fired incident reported in the area of Meriday Lane and Jacqueline Drive in Rockford.
Medical was asked to stage for the scene but then were released so it’s unclear if anyone was actually injured in this incident. (Or possibly self transport to the hospital)
Police call logs confirmed this incident and the Rockford Police Department is currently investigating.
We will update this is if police release further information.
UPDATE Per Police:
On Thursday, July 27 around 12:10 a.m., Rockford Police officers responded to reports of shots fired in an apartment building in the 3100 block of Meriday Lane.
When officers arrived on scene, witnesses reported that an argument had intensified inside of one of the apartments and spilled into the hallway where shots were fired.
One of the shots hit a nearby apartment.
Officers found potential suspects inside a car in the parking lot located in the rear of the building.
Two men, 18 year old Rockford resident Jayvon Jones and 18 year old Rockford resident Nasier Green were arrested and taken to the Winnebago County Jail.
Officers were also able to find two loaded handguns inside the car, one of which had an extended magazine and a suppressor. (Silencer)
The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the following charges:
- Jayvon Jones, 18, Rockford
Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (3)
Battery - Nasier Green, 18, Rockford
Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (2)
Reckless Discharge of a Firearm
*As with any and all investigations, there may be future charges and arrests.
The charges are merely allegations and all individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
