The Illinois State Police have issued a statement today on the “traffic stop” death of Lamar Bell:

– The Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Internal Investigation (DII) is investigating an in-custody death which occurred in Winnebago County.
On July 17, 2023, at approximately 7:59 p.m., an ISP Trooper initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of 10th Avenue and Kishwaukee Street, in Winnebago County. As a result of the traffic stop, 33-year-old Lamar D. Bell from Rockford, IL was taken into custody. While on scene, Bell began exhibiting signs of a medical emergency associated with consumption of narcotics. Narcotics were also found in the vehicle Bell was driving. An ambulance was called, and Bell was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
On July 19, 2023, an autopsy was completed, and preliminary results did not reveal any traumatic injury to Bell, and support the consumption of narcotics by Bell.
This incident is being investigated by ISP DII and the Winnebago County Coroner’s office. The investigation is open and on-going and there is no further information available at this time.
