Update from the Rockford FD::

Just before 6pm on Thursday, June 29th, the Rockford Fire Department responded to a report of
chemical spill. The first fire unit arrived in just over 3 minutes and found the residents of the single
family home standing outside. A resident reported that he had been preparing chemicals to treat his
swimming pool. While mixing the chemicals, he became overwhelmed by the chemical odors. He
evacuated the home and called 911. The Hazardous Materials Response Team was requested to
respond to the scene. Firefighters used electronic air quality monitors to evaluate the air inside the
residence. The home was ventilated to remove any contaminants and the remaining chemicals were
disposed of properly. One resident was transported to the hospital as a precaution for minor injuries.
No other injuries occurred as a result of this incident.

At approximately 5:55 this evening emergency personnel along with a hazardous materials response team were dispatch to the 500 block of Westchester Drive in a residential Rockford neighborhood, for a possible hazardous situation.
Details are minimal at this time but initial reports are this is a result of a chemical reaction from a mixture of various pool chemicals, namely chlorine, for a in-ground swimming pool.

At least one person has been transported by ambulance to a local hospital with injuries, possibly from inhalation the of chemicals.

The extent of injuries and number of people injured/affected is unknown at this time.

Please avoid the area. We will update if further information is released.
