UPDATE:
The victim has been identified as 19 year old Dequan Davis

On Saturday, June 24, 2023, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Rockford Police officers
responded to a residence in the 3300 block of Sunnyside Avenue for reports of a loud party and
shots fired. When officers arrived on the scene, they were advised there had been a party in the
roadway, and shots were fired toward the crowd. A short time later, a 19-year-old shooting victim
arrived at a local hospital suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. He succumbed
to that injury at the hospital.
