Your eyes were not deceiving you.
You actually did see a Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 flying around our skies.
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 is a supersonic jet fighter and interceptor aircraft,
designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich Design Bureau in the Soviet Union.
The Rockford Airport hosts all types of different aircraft.
One of them is the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21
In fact there are several planes of interest,
That are currently at the Rockford Airport.
You might want to take a quick trip out there.
Don’t forget your cameras!
The MIG-21 that was flying around our skies,
Has a tail number of N317DM
That is registered to G-LOC FIGHTERS LLC
There are some nearby businesses that restore aircraft, and warbirds.
From a brief online search,
it appears that it was just restored recently.
It appears that todays pilot was possibly doing some testing/training.
Witnesses said it went W/SW of Rockford, and did some maneuvers.
Then the pilot was returning to the Rockford Airport
And was making an approach into runway 7, then was diverted.
A heavy was coming in on Runway 19.
The pilot then followed in behind the heavy.
When pilots fly the Runway 1/19 approach and takeoffs.
The community gets to see some of these beauties up close
As they fly right over the skies of Rockford.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays,
The Rockford Airport runs Runway 1/19
(North/South) Keep your eyes to the skies!
Good to see a warbird flying around our skies!
