Last Friday, March 31, 2023, at approximately 1:10 p.m., Rockford
Police officers responded to the Stop N Go gas station on Charles Street for reports of shots fired.
Upon arrival, officers were advised that as an adult male in a box truck was exiting the business,
he pulled out in front of a white van. The driver of the van then shot towards the box truck and
struck the front passenger door/window. Later that night, at around 11:05 p.m., officers located
and stopped the suspected van on N. Church and Napoleon Streets. The driver, identified as
Anthony Sago, was taken into custody and lodged in the County Jail. From inside the vehicle,
officers located and recovered a loaded handgun with an extended magazine.
The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and authorized the below-
listed charges.

Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon
Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm
Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon
Possession of a Firearm
Criminal Damage to Property
The charges against him are merely accusations. He’s considered innocent unless proven guilty in
a court of law.
