Say It Ain’t Snow….. Up to 8 inches are expected tonight/tomm.

Update from the NWS:

A late-season winter storm will impact the area tonight into the day on Saturday.
Here is the latest on what to expect.

Snow amounts and associated impacts will be driven by the snowfall rate and confined to a narrow axis where they may reach 2 inches per hour at times. A sharp drop off in snow amounts is expected on the south side of this axis with the prevailing precipitation type expected to be mostly rain generally south of I-80. The nature of these narrow bands adds uncertainty with its exact placement and these higher amounts could shift by a row of counties northwest or southeast of the current forecast.

Late-season winter storm lifts into the area this evening initially falling as rain that will transition over to a wet snow, especially across portions of far northern Illinois. The highest accumulations are expected within a narrow band, approximately 50 miles wide, where snowfall rates upwards of 2”/hr are expected. Winds will also be gusty out of the north to northwest as high as 35 mph. A sharp cutoff in snow amounts is expected on the south side of the band. The worst impacts are expected to occur between 4 AM and 11 AM Saturday morning.

...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM TO 1 PM CDT
SATURDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 8
inches. North to northwest winds gusting as high as 35 mph.

* WHERE...Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Lake IL and Ogle Counties.

* WHEN...From 4 AM to 1 PM CDT Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Roads will become snow covered and travel will become
difficult for a period early Saturday morning during the period
of heaviest snow. The combination of heavy wet snow and gusty
winds may result in downed tree limbs and sporadic power
outages.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow rates up to 2 inches per hour are
likely late tonight into mid-morning Saturday. The expected
heavy, wet nature of the snow will make shoveling hazardous.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency.
