One of my more challenging jobs:
A suicide cleanup:
We were instructed to locate the shell casing if possible.
My oldest son which worked with me at the time was in the basement sweeping the floor since the basement was empty already.
He ran upstairs to tell me it felt like someone was downstairs watching him and a cold breeze went by.
I thought maybe it’s just the teenager wanting to get out of work. So we began going through everything and throwing out the garbage on the main floor.
There were items that were salvageable and I was instructed to sell them. I sold them on craigslist which were only 2 items.
A hutch and a stand.
I recieved a call from someone interested in the items. I gave them the address and within 20 minutes
there was a knock at the door. On the other side of the door stood a lady with a gentleman.
The lady continued to wave passed me. I asked her who she was waving at.
Her reply, the gentleman behind you. I can’t even explain the look on my face.
I went to walk over to where the items were and she started talking to someone that was behind me.
I asked her who she was taking too.
Her reply, the gentleman man behind you!
There wasn’t anyone behind me🤔
I randomly asked her, What’s his name?
She told me..
I asked her, How old is he?
She told me..
I asked her, What happened to him?
She told me…
My mouth dropped to the floor as I didn’t know what to say.
I proceeded to walk her to the door with her items.
She turned to me and then thanked the person behind me for the beautiful items
She then told me , (edited) wanted me to tell you and the young lady in the back room pulling up the carpet staples ,
” thank you so much for cleaning up my property .”
And that he was sorry for what he did but he couldn’t wait for the cancer to eat him up so he sent his homemaker to the store and decided it was time.
Tears ran down my face and everything she said was true.
I couldn’t imagine the pain he was in .
But wherever he is now I hope he is in a better place.
Everyone of our homes has a story. Some are happy at the end and some are very sad.
I thank each and everyone of our client’s for giving us the opportunity to help them.
Btw: We found the bullet casing down in the carpet while it was being ripped out.
As much as we hate asking for donations.
