Suspects Hit A Vehicle And Pedestrian As They Flee From Police

On Friday, December 30, 2022, Rockford Police SCOPE officers
attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the intersection of N. Rockton Avenue and Auburn Street
when the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. A short time later, officers observed that the
vehicle had lost control in the 2600 block of Auburn Street and collided with a vehicle and a
pedestrian who was parked at a gas pump at the On-The-Way gas station at 2627 Auburn Street.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Upon arrival,
officers observed the disabled suspect vehicle and all three occupants were detained. During the
investigation, SCOPE officers were able to locate and recover a loaded handgun, ammunition,
over eight grams of cocaine, three grams of cannabis, drug paraphernalia, an open bottle of
vodka, and cash.

The driver, Nathan Batson, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of
injuries sustained in the crash, and is now in custody in the County Jail at the time of this release.
