Members Approved for the Newly Created Civilian Oversight Board

 

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Earlier this year, City Council established a Civilian Oversight Board to review the completed internal investigation and outcome of all citizen complaints, as well as review certain use of force incidents. The board will issue a written report of its findings as to each case reviewed, which will be available to the public. The board will also make an annual report to the City Council, Mayor and Chief of Police detailing its activities and making any recommendations for improvements.

After a thorough application process that culminated with in-person interviews, the Civilian Oversight Board Selection Team recommended and City Council approved the following members:

Reginald Alexander

 

Reginald is the owner and president of Blackprint Inc., which operates Xsquisities Bar and Grill. He previously served as Vice President of 100 Strong Community Safe House. He also worked at Chrysler for 15 years, where he served on the Civil Rights Committee – which focused on creating an inclusive culture for minorities in the workplace. Reginald has also been a commissioner on the Community Relations Commission.

 

Jillisa Bondurant

 

Jillisa is the executive director of Children’s Safe Harbor. Previously, she worked in various roles at CASA, where she served the community by advocating for youth who experienced violence. She is a member of the Winnebago County Action Team, Rockford Chamber’s Lead 360, Family Violence Coordinating Council, Maternal Child Health Steering Committee, Domestic and Community Violence Prevention Task Force, and Victim Safety and Security Committee. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology, as well as a bachelor’s degree in psychology, from Western Illinois University.

 

Sonji Collins

 

Sonji has been a payroll analyst for 20 years. She is also a local faith leader and a member of the Pastoral Advisory Board for One Body Collaborative. She has a bachelor’s degree in biblical studies from Moody Bible Institute, another bachelor’s degree in economics from Northeastern Illinois University and is pursuing a master’s of leadership from Judson University.

 

Earl Curry

 

Earl is the Director of Behavioral Health for Horizon Health Corporation. Previously, he was the Clinical Director of Behavioral Health at Alden Debes/Park Strathmoor and a substance abuse counselor at Rosecrance, as well as Remedies Renewing Lives. Earl has more than 15 years of experience working with individuals struggling with significant mental illness. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Rasmussen College, as well as two master’s degrees from Judson University – one in business administration and one in human services administration.

 

Bill Hatfield

 

Bill is a former Director of Environmental Health and business owner of LEHP Management, which provides food-related oversight inspections, as well as real estate sales well and septic evaluations. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and is an Illinois Licensed Professional Geologist and Illinois Licensed Environmental Health Practitioner.

Jonathan Medina

 

Jonathan is an Associate Attorney at Hoffmann Immigration Law. He is bilingual and is active in the community through the Rockford Park District, St. Edward’s Youth Group, St. Bridgette’s Youth Group and St. Bernadette’s Sunday School. He has an associate’s degree from Rock Valley College, a bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies from Roosevelt University and a juris doctor degree from The John Marshall Law School.

Aaron Vaiden

 

Aaron is a project management team leader at Field Fastener. He previously served as the Strategic Program Manager at OSF HealthCare, as well as a Six Sigma Black Belt Project Manager at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. He holds a Master of Business Administration from Liberty University in Lychburg, VA, as well as a Master of Public Administration from the University of Illinois at Springfield.

“I’m thrilled that we had so many wonderful candidates apply to fill these seven positions. The newly selected members will now work with myself, the Rockford Police Department and City Council to identify areas for improvement and offer solutions in order to continue building trust between the police department and the community,” says Mayor McNamara.
