Single Vehicle Crash

On 01/16/19 at 0015 hours Ogle County Sheriff Deputies come upon a single vehicle crash at Rt 2 and Mud Creek Rd.

Upon investigating the crash, Deputies determined Kendall Pelt age 46 of Mt Morris, failed to reduce speed to avoid and accident and struck the guardrail on Rt 2 east of Mud Creek Rd.

Ogle County Police said that Pelt was arrested for failure to reduce speed, DUI, no valid license, and operating uninsured motor vehicle.

Pelt was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he remained in lieu of bond.

Fatal Two Vehicle Accident

On 01/11/19 at approximately 6:30 AM Ogle County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Franklin Grove Fire Department responded to a 2 vehicle accident with injuries on Lowden Road about 1/4 mile south of Stone Barn Road in rural Franklin Grove.

A white Mazda passenger car driven by Michael Chavera, 49, of Dixon was driving northbound on Lowden Road and a red Mazda passenger car driven by Frank Castaldo, 28 of Byron was driving southbound.

Both vehicles collided nearly head-on, rolled over at least once and came to a rest in the east ditch of the roadway.

Chavera was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ogle county Coroner. Castaldo sustained only minor injuries and declined medical attention. Accident remains under investigation.

CLARENCE OWENS & EVERETTE HAWLEY

Clarence Owens, aged 65 and Everette Hawley, aged 75 were last seen at a farm auction near the Winnebago-Ogle County line on February 19, 1976.

An intense multi-agency investigation involved Stephenson County Sheriff’s Department, Illinois State Police and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department.

Their bodies have not been found.

Rockford Scanner™: Woman Crashes While Avoiding A Deer, Arrested For DUI

On 12/06/18 at 8:18 p.m., Ogle County Sheriff’s Deputies along with Byron Fire/EMS were dispatched to IL Rt. 2 at Camling Rd. for a two vehicle crash. After an investigation, it was discovered that Andrea Arwood, age 29 of Rockford, had crossed over the center line while traveling northbound on Rt. 2 after swerving to miss a deer.

Arwood and the driver of the other vehicle were both transported to Rockford Memorial Hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

Arwood was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and she was released on a $3,000 I-bond.

One Vehicle Rollover Accident

On December 2, 2018 at 4:53 AM the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, Linscott Rock Fire Department, and Linscott Rock Ambulance responded to a one vehicle rollover accident with injuries in the 15,000 block East Holcomb Rd.
A white Ford Fusion was eastbound on Holcomb Rd when the driver Jacob Doane, age 20 of Davis Junction, failed to negotiate the curve in the road.  Doane’s vehicle left the north side of Holcomb Rd, striking a tree, and rolling over on its roof.
  Doane was transported to Swedish American Hospital by Linscott Rock Ambulance with minor injuries.  The accident remains under investigation.

On 11/22/18 at 2:00 PM, Ogle County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with the Lynn-Scott-Rock Ambulance, responded to 113 Autumnwood Lane in Davis Junction for a report of two males fighting in the front yard.

Upon investigation Deputies learned that the homeowner had called 911 to report that there were two males fighting in her yard and she did not know who they were.

Deputies then identified the males as Andres M. Varga, age 58 of North Aurora, and William J Werrline IV, age 45 of North Aurora.

The investigation determined that Varga and Werrline had gotten into a fight near by the residence while driving in the area and were walking through the resident’s yard creating a disturbance when 911 was called.

Deputies determined that Werrline had bitten Varga in the facial area several times while they were fighting.

Varga was transported to Swedish American Hospital by the Ambulance for treatment of injuries sustained in the incident.

Werrline was subsequently arrested for Battery and was taken into custody without incident.

Werrline was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was held in lieu of bond.

Disorderly Conduct Arrest

On the afternoon of 10/23/18, the Ogle County State’s Attorney’s Office received a phone call in which the caller made threatening statements regarding employees of the Judicial Center, specifically the State’s Attorney’s Office and Judges.
Additional security measures where enacted on the morning of 10/24/18  until the caller could be identified and located.
At approx. 9:35 am, Jason L. Churchill, age 50 of Mount Morris, was taken into custody. Churchill was subsequently arrested for Disorderly Conduct and transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was held in lieu of bond.

 







Rockford Scanner™: Teen Arrested For Drinking Alcohol, After An Auto Accident

On October 14, 2018 at 4:20 am the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office and the Rochelle ambulance responded to a single vehicle accident with injuries in front of 6377 S. Brooklyn rd.

The driver of the vehicle Jared A. Scarbrough, age 18, of Creston was treated and released at the scene.

After a further investigation Scarbrough was arrested for Unlawful Consumption of Alcohol as a minor and Failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Scarbrough was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was given an I-bond and a November court date.

 







Rockford Scanner™: One Person Arrested After A Serious Accident Near Byron

On October 6th, 2018, Deputies, along with Byron Fire/EMS personnel, responded to the 12000 block of Kennedy Hill Rd for a one vehicle accident.

Both occupants were transported by Byron Ambulance to RMH for treatment of serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

At the hospital, the driver of the vehicle, Mitchell A. Wessels, 33 of Sterling, was charged with Driving Under the Influence and Driving While License Suspended, and cited for Operating Uninsured Vehicle and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident. He was released in IBond.

The passenger, Lucas W. Hopkins, 37, of Rockford, was cited for Failure to Wear Seatbelt and given a civil citation for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
