UPDATE:

Tuesday, July 2, 2019, shortly after 10:00 p.m., Rockford Police Patrol Officers responded to the 5300 block of Parliament Place in reference to a subject reportedly attempting to break into a window of a residence.

Upon arrival, officers located the 40-year-old male suspect, who was wearing hospital scrubs. Officers took the suspect into custody after a brief struggle. The suspect immediately then suffered a medical episode, and officers began performing CPR. The suspect was transported to a hospital where he later died.

Officers learned the suspect had earlier been transported by ambulance to a local hospital in the area for an unreported medical condition. He then fled from hospital staff and security a short time prior to the reported attempted break-in.

Chief Dan O’Shea activated the Winnebago Boone County Integrity Task Force immediately following the incident, which will conduct an independent investigation.

  • RPD call log shows this to be an “In progress Person”  in the 5300 block of Parliment pl at 10:03 pm.
