Update from a party that was involved:  The other driver was traveling the wrong way on Whitman Street bridge and hit me head on. I’ve been in the hospital since so I haven’t been able to see my car but I’m sure it’s totaled. Doctors say I have an orbital fracture in my face. Other than that it’s just whiplash to my neck and some bruising to my pelvis and lower back.


Sources are reporting a serious accident in Rockford.

Sources are reporting a head on collision near the Whitman st bridge.

Injuries were being reported, possible life threatening but not confirmed.

Sources said the accident was a head on collision.

Emergency personnel have the area blocked off, avoid the area.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.


The Rockford Police Department advises you to AVOID The Whitman Street Bridge (eastbound lanes) due to current traffic accident. The traffic accident on the Whitman Street Bridge will cause traffic backups and detours for the next several hours. Suggested alternate route is north bound onto N. Main Street from Whitman Street, slight right onto Harlem Blvd and east onto Auburn Street to cross east of the Rock River.

Sources are reporting a house fire in Loves Park

Loves Park Fire Department and North Park Fire Department are battling a house fire in the 4600 block of Fenton Lane in Loves Park. That is Northwest of Mulford and Windsor.

The fire is reported to have started in an upstairs bedroom of the residence.

Emergency personnel arrived on scene quickly and was able to knock the fire down. Unknown on injuries at this time. The residents were able to evacuate.

Update from the Winnebago County Coroner Office: 


FATAL ACCIDENT: On Saturday, December 22nd, 2018, shortly after 2:00 a.m. Rockford Police Officers responded to the area of Kishwaukee Street and Brooke Road in reference to a serious traffic crash. Based on the information available at this time, it appears that a vehicle traveling southbound on Kishwaukee Street at a high rate of speed disobeyed the red light at the intersection and struck another vehicle that was westbound on Brooke Road. Following the crash, the suspect vehicle caught fire.

One of the occupants of the suspect vehicle, a 45-year-old adult male, was ejected and later pronounced dead at the scene. A 50-year-old adult female occupant escaped the suspect vehicle on her own, while a third occupant, a 46-year-old adult male, had to be pulled from the burning vehicle by officers. Both the surviving occupants were transported to a local hospital. The female’s injuries are serious, but non-life-threatening. The male is in critical condition.

The two occupants of the victim vehicle were unharmed. The names of the individuals involved are not being released at this time.

Investigators from the Traffic Unit are conducting a follow-up investigation into the crash. Further details will be released should they become available.

Sources said this stemmed from a police chase, but not confirmed.


Sources are reporting a fatal accident in Rockford overnight.

It happened near Kishwaukee and Brooke rd around 2 am

At least one person is confirmed dead. Two others are injured.

Sources said vehicle going southbound on Kishwaukee failed to stop for the red light at the intersection and  crashed into another vehicle that was westbound on Brooke.

It appears from witnesses at the scene, one person my have been ejected from a vehicle.  Or a pedestrian was hit.  The dead body was located outside near the Grant Park Tap sign, just underneath the sign.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

RPD said this on the accident: Rockford Police advises you to AVOID the 3000 block of Kishwaukee St due to a current traffic issue. A vehicle crash near Kishwaukee St and Brooke Rd has closed Kishwaukee St and will require a detour of traffic for the next several hours.
