UPDATE: Public records show Stanley Turner, the man who allegedly robbed the Dollar Tree last night and had a several hour standoff, has a long criminal history including 2nd degree murder. Turner pleaded guilty to 2nd Degree Murder in 2014


 

From RPD: On Sunday, shortly after 9 p.m., Rockford Police officers responded to Dollar Tree (6340 E. State St.) for a possible robbery in progress. Everyone inside the store made it out, but officers learned the male suspect was still inside with what appeared to be a firearm. Officers are working to make contact with the suspect at this time. The incident is ongoing and more information will be released when possible. Please avoid the area.


RPD, SWAT, RFD and many other officers are on scene. The SWAT team is trying to communicate with someone inside the Dollar Tree.

The business is surrounded by many officers.

Police said there is an armed man inside the business, armed with a handgun. This was originally called in as a robbery in progress around 9 pm.

Officers saw the armed man running inside the store with a gun.

No other details at this time.



Sources are reporting approx. 20 police officers with their guns drawn at a business on the East side.

It happened at the Dollar Tree/Pet Smart area on E State.

Sources said there is 20 + police officers on scene and they all have their guns drawn.

It is not yet clear what is going on. But it is obviously a dangerous situation. So please avoid the area.

WANTED MAN: A Rockford man is wanted in connection to two armed robberies within the past week. On Tuesday, December 11, 2018 shortly before 7:00 p.m., Rockford Police officers responded to Boost Mobile (3201 Auburn Street) in reference to an armed robbery.

Officers learned the male suspect, armed with a handgun, robbed the business of money and fled. At approximately 7:20 p.m., Rockford Police officers were called to S&H Tobacco (2744 11th Street) for a report of an armed robbery. Officers learned the suspect entered the business, pointed a gun at an employee and demanded money. The suspect then fled the business with the money. No one was hurt in either incident.

Detectives from the Rockford Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit conducted a follow-up investigation into the incidents. Subsequently, the suspect was identified as 24-year-old Janathan Turner. The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the cases, authorized charges, and a warrant was obtained for Turner on December 13, 2018.

Detectives are investigating the possibility that Turner may be responsible for other similar robberies.

Rockford Scanner™: Fatal Accident Involving A Local Police Officer



 Just before 11 pm tonight, several emergency personnel were on scene of a fatal accident that involved a local police officer. 

A motorcyclist and a local police officer were involved in an accident near W State and Pierpont. 

Officers are reporting the motorcyclist ran into the back of an officers vehicle. 

The motorcyclist passed away on the scene.
Winnebago County Coroner was dispatched to the scene. 

Officer is reported to be not injured. 

This is still developing. The cause of the accident is under investigation. Please avoid the area for the next several hours.
