BUSTED DURING BATTLE OF THE BELLS: Rockford Police officers ringing bells for the Salvation Army stop a shoplifter trying to steal more than a thousand dollars’ worth of merchandise. On Friday, December 14, 2018, at approximately 10:20 a.m., Rockford Police officers participating in “Battle of the Bells” against Rockford Fire Department were alerted to a male suspect shoplifting goods from Walmart (3859 Northridge Drive). When confronted by an officer outside, the suspect fled on foot. He was taken into custody after a short foot chase and now faces the below listed charges.

“While officers were volunteering for a noteworthy cause, they were quickly reminded of how important it is to remain ever-vigilant,” said Assistant Deputy Chief Carla Redd. “I am very grateful for the dedication the officers show to the community on a daily basis.”
Schumacher was lodged in the Winnebago County Jail. The charges against Schumacher are merely accusations. He is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Sources said Police put a man in handcuffs earlier today near the Starbucks near Forest Hills and Riverside.
Sources said the man committed a crime at Walmart on Northridge this morning then ran from police across the road near the Taco Bell and Starbucks. Police caught the man near Starbucks.
Sources said he is an alleged theft suspect.
