Sources are reporting a fatal accident on the East side.

It happened just before 1 am near the 1200 block of N Alpine.

A vehicle rolled over and caught on fire.  The person inside has passed away.

Others were able to get out, and need medical assistance.

Still developing. Sounds like this area will be blocked off for several hours.

Source said he witnessed a vehicle excessively speeding (Possibly over 100 mph) when the accident happened. A Silver vehicle possibly a Sanata  hit a Jeep. 

They said this appears that it may have originated as a police chase, then turned into an auto accident.  Witnesses said someone tried to flee the scene on foot after the accident, but officers were able to stop them.

RPD says a Silver car and a Gray SUV were northbound on Alpine when the car rear-ended the SUV.  The driver of the SUV was the one who passed away on scene.  Passenger of the car was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries, and the driver of the car was transported with non life threatening injuries.  They said speed was a factor in the accident.

Sources are reporting several police officers and a crime scene unit at 3300 block of Tannenbaum Lane, in Rockford. Admin William saw at minimum 8 police officers on the scene.

At this time, It is not yet known exactly what happened.

Rockford Scanner William was on scene to gather information, but the RPD told him to leave.

So William left the scene and was unable to gather any information at this time.

Update from Rockford police
DRUG BUST: A Rockford man is in custody on drug charges following a search of his home. Over the past several weeks, Rockford Police received complaints regarding suspicious drug activity in the 3300 block of Tannenbaum Lane. Detectives from the Rockford Police Department’s Narcotics Unit conducted a follow-up investigation and identified a residence (3351 Tannenbaum Lane) as the source of the complaints. On Thursday, January 17, 2019, detectives executed a search warrant of the residence and took one male suspect into custody. Detectives also located over seven ounces of cocaine in the residence.

The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and authorized the below listed charges against the suspect, 48-year-old James Coleman.

James Coleman, 48, Rockford: Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine (100 – 400 grams), Delivery of Cocaine (1-15 grams), Delivery of Cocaine (0-1 gram)

Coleman was lodged in the Winnebago County Jail. The charges against Coleman are merely accusations. He is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Rockford Scanner™: Aggravated battery in Rockford, Possibly involving a police officer

Sources are reporting several emergency personnel in the area of 10th St. and 20th Ave. on Rockford’s East-side around 2 am.

Rockford police confirmed an aggravated battery at this location around 2 AM.

We been told this incident involves a police officer, but the police will not yet confirm this at this time.

It is not yet known if these two incidents are related but the Rockford police confirmed there was a traffic stop at the same location just prior to the aggravated battery.

All we can confirm is there is a scene near this location in at least one person was injured and needed medical treatment. And the Rockford Police Department confirm there was a traffic stop and an aggravated battery at the same location. Press enter no other details are available at this time

Update: At 5 am, the RPD is reporting a resisting and obstructing a peace officer at this location. Unknown if it is related.

This was my friend. He was pulled over for not using his turn signal. When he refused to talk to the officer without a lawyer present, they drew assault rifles on him.”

RS Sources are reporting a lot of police have their guns drawn on some people in a dark colored van on E State street by Perkins.

They are talking to the people in the vehicle with their megaphones.

Unknown what is going on, but since they have their guns drawn that means this is a felony traffic stop (at minimum)  so you want to avoid this area because this is a dangerous situation.

At least 6 cops on scene. They have blocked off the area. The officers are using their scoped rifles, pointed at the people inside the van.

Update: Racheal M. said: There is also about 10 or so cops at Best Buy as well right now. It appears the occupants of the van are detained and police are searching the van now.

Police call log shows no calls at this location.  But several sources have contacted us and confirmed many officers are working a scene at the Mobil station.
