Around 10:35 PM the Rockford fire department were dispatched to an address on Sun Valley Ter. Scanner traffic is saying in an apartment building is possibly on fire. Reports of the apartment complex filling up with smoke. There are 8 apartments in the complex. Several units are in route to the scene

Officers responded to 2626 Hanson St in reference to two males roommates fighting. Upon arrival Officers learned a fight ensued between the males over one wanting twenty dollars from the other. During the altercation one of the subjects obtained a large kitchen knife and stabbed the other. The victim grabbed the knife and broke it. The suspect then obtained a second and continued to try and stab the victim. The victim defended himself by hitting the suspect. The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment and charged with Aggravated Battery and Domestic Battery. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Around 3 am this morning a broadcast came over the scanner in reference to a home invasion that happened near 317 Underwood in Rockford.
Suspect vehicle is described as a Maroon Saturn. Last seen westbound on Crosby from Daisy
Suspects: #1 Black male wearing dark clothing and a stocking cap
#2 Black male, thin build, dark clothing.
Just before 7 PM the Rockford fire department were dispatched to 15th Ave. and Kishwaukee. Initial scanner traffic is saying that there’s an automobile accident with injuries near this intersection. A child is reported to be injured. Unknown on the severity of the injuries at this time.

On Thursday December 8, 2016 shortly after 7:00 a.m. patrol officers from the Rockford Police Department responded to a residence in the 3200 block of Parkside Avenue in reference to a stabbing. When they arrived officers located the victim, a 48 year old female, suffering from minor stab wounds to the hands and other blunt force trauma to her head. Officers learned that the suspect, who was the victim’s ex-boyfriend, had approached the victim in the driveway and attempted to stab her with a utility knife or box cutter. When the victim attempted to flee the suspect began battering her. A male friend of the victim, 53 year old Paul Gordon, attempted to intervene and struggled with the suspect. Gordon was also cut by the utility knife during the struggle.
The suspect, later identified as 49 year old Lemuel Mitchell, attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was located and taken into custody after a brief foot chase. Mitchell was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries that he received during the struggle with Gordon. Mitchell was later lodged in the Winnebago County Jail on the following charges:

CHARGES: Aggravated Battery with a Knife

A photo of Mitchell is attached electronically to this press release. The name of the female victim is not being released due to the domestic nature of the incident.
The charges against Mitchell are merely accusations and not evidence of his guilt. As with defendants in all criminal cases Mitchell is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
This morning around 7:20 am a Rockford Scanner fan was reporting 2 stabbing victims on Parkside ave. in Rockford. There was a fight near an alleyway. Two people were stabbed. 2 Ambulances dispatched.
Rockford police have yet to release any information, 12 hours later………

Around 1:16 am this morning an officer had a Blue vehicle flee from them in the area of E State near Mulford. The vehicle is doing around 90 MPH fleeing from an officer headed westbound near Alpine. The Sergeant told the officer to terminate the chase.
Around 3:24 am this morning Winnebago County officers were chasing a Cadillac. The suspect is wanted on multiple warrants. . They are chasing the vehicle southbound on Arnold. Officers are chasing it now westbound on Newburg. Still developing
Update: The suspect went into the oncoming traffic and officers terminated the chase. Last seen near Broadway
Officers responded to a call for shots fired in the 3600 block of Preston Street. Responding officers discovered that the west side of 3614 Preston Street had been struck three times by gunfire. No one inside was injured. The victims did not hear the gun shots but heard glass break and then noticed their house had been struck.
Officers did not locate any shell casings. During a neighborhood check it was learned that after the shots were heard a black male was seen walking from the area however there is no indication that he was involved.
