Note: This is the 3rd incident in the last several weeks that a Rockford Police officer has fired their gun. 2 of those incidents, a person died.
Sources said the victim Randy Pierson was charged on multiple counts of theft and theft and swindle in Stearns County Minnesota. Court records show he failed to show up for court on the charges. There was an active warrant for failure to appear. Unknown if it is related to this shooting incident or not at this time.
On Wednesday, February 6, 2019 shorty before 11:30 a.m., a Rockford Police patrol officer conducted a traffic stop on a white truck with Texas plates pulling a micro flagstaff lite trailer.
During the course of the stop, the driver of the vehicle produced a handgun.
Chief OShea, said the driver “produced a gun”.
He did not say “pointed” the gun. In the press briefing.
The officer fired multiple rounds.

In the photos, there is what appears to be an empty magazine near cone #10 in the photos near the back driver side tire.
The suspect died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound according to police.
The Winnebago Boone County Integrity Task Force has been called to conduct an independent investigation.
The officer involved was transported to the hospital per protocol. All information is preliminary
There is video of the incident according to police, but it will not be released to the public.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on a white truck pulling a trailer just before 11:30 am.
During the traffic stop, police said a man produced a gun. The officer fired off multiple rounds at the suspect. Police said the suspect died of a self inflicted gunshot wound.
Sources said numerous gunshots were fired during the incident. One officer from RPD and one from ISP was also on scene, the RPD officer was the only officer who discharged their weapon during the incident.
Unrelated: Multiple vehicle accident with one rolled over on the bypass near S Main.
Numerous police have their guns drawn at the scene.
They requested an ambulance for an officer.
There is also reports of a dead body at the scene.
Unknown who the victim is at this time.
Reports of a major traffic backup in the area.
Witnesses said the officers got out of their vehicles and put on bulletproof vests and pulled out their rifles.
Police have shut down the ramps in the area. Still developing.

Numerous officers have their guns drawn on someone.
It is not yet clear what is going on, but it definitely is a dangerous situation.
A Rockford man is wanted on charges of sexual assault to a child. On November 14, 2018 the Rockford Police Department received a report of an alleged sexual assault of a child, under the age of 13, by a male family member which had occurred at a residence in the 2900 block of Chatham Lane.
Detectives from the Sensitive Crimes Unit conducted a follow-up investigation. The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case, authorized charges and a warrant was obtained for the suspect, 35-year-old Charles Jones. The warrant has not been served, and Jones is still at large.

The charges against Jones are merely accusations and not evidence of his guilt. As with defendants in all criminal cases, Jones is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Sources are reporting 2 scenes involving numerous police officers at each scene.
The first scene is reported to be in the old KMart parking lot on Sandy Hollow. Approx. 10 squad cars are on scene at this location. Unknown what happened at this time.
The second scene is near Brynwood and Atherton. Several squads were on scene. Sources said police parked their vehicles and got out and are on foot near a condo nearby. They are reported to have their rifles out.
At this time, it is unknown what happened due to the police encryption and police have yet to release information
UPDATE: A suspect rammed a police car, the police fired shot at the suspect. Suspect was in a Blue 2001 Ford Focus with a plate of AP89823 comes back to an address at 2805 Edelweiss in Rockford. Sources said the alleged suspect is Alexandro Marquez. Hispanic male, medium build in his 20’s. Public records shows he has prior arrests for DUI and operating an uninsured motor vehicle and also possession of cannabis. Police are searching for this suspect.
A neighbor said there was a roadrage incident involving the off duty officer and the alleged suspect. A lot of screaming and fighting going on just prior to the shots being fired.
OFFICER’S VEHICLE RAMMED: On Sunday, January 20, 2019 shortly before 6:30 p.m., an off-duty Rockford Police officer was the victim of a vehicular assault in the area of 8th Street and 5th Avenue.
During the incident, the off-duty officer discharged their weapon at the suspect vehicle after it rammed the officer’s vehicle. The officer was transported to a local hospital as a precaution. There are no known injuries at this time. (Sources said one victim was shot, RPD is saying no shooting victim) The Winnebago Boone County Integrity Task Force was activated at the request of Chief Dan O’Shea and will investigate the incident. This is an active and ongoing investigation. More information will be released as it becomes available.

Numerous police on scene, sounds like they might be searching for a suspect in the area. No other information at this time.
Sources are reporting several emergency personnel in the area of 10th St. and 20th Ave. on Rockford’s East-side around 2 am.
Rockford police confirmed an aggravated battery at this location around 2 AM.
We been told this incident involves a police officer, but the police will not yet confirm this at this time.
It is not yet known if these two incidents are related but the Rockford police confirmed there was a traffic stop at the same location just prior to the aggravated battery.
All we can confirm is there is a scene near this location in at least one person was injured and needed medical treatment. And the Rockford Police Department confirm there was a traffic stop and an aggravated battery at the same location. Press enter no other details are available at this time
