On Thursday December 8, 2016 shortly after 7:00 a.m. patrol officers from the Rockford Police Department responded to a residence in the 3200 block of Parkside Avenue in reference to a stabbing. When they arrived officers located the victim, a 48 year old female, suffering from minor stab wounds to the hands and other blunt force trauma to her head. Officers learned that the suspect, who was the victim’s ex-boyfriend, had approached the victim in the driveway and attempted to stab her with a utility knife or box cutter. When the victim attempted to flee the suspect began battering her. A male friend of the victim, 53 year old Paul Gordon, attempted to intervene and struggled with the suspect. Gordon was also cut by the utility knife during the struggle.
The suspect, later identified as 49 year old Lemuel Mitchell, attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was located and taken into custody after a brief foot chase. Mitchell was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries that he received during the struggle with Gordon. Mitchell was later lodged in the Winnebago County Jail on the following charges:

A photo of Mitchell is attached electronically to this press release. The name of the female victim is not being released due to the domestic nature of the incident.
The charges against Mitchell are merely accusations and not evidence of his guilt. As with defendants in all criminal cases Mitchell is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
This morning around 7:20 am a Rockford Scanner fan was reporting 2 stabbing victims on Parkside ave. in Rockford. There was a fight near an alleyway. Two people were stabbed. 2 Ambulances dispatched.
Rockford police have yet to release any information, 12 hours later………

UPDATE: The victim has been stabbed many times in the chest and stomach area. The vitals on the victim are very weak. They have called everyone available at the ER to be ready. The victim was transported to a local ER. The victim is a male around 40 years old. The injuries are life threatening.
Sounds like the stabbing happened at a different location, and the victim walked into the barber shop, to seek help.

On Saturday, December 03, 2016 around 1915 hours Rockford Police Officers responded to Off the Top Barber Shop at 1024 Broadway in reference to a stabbing victim. Upon arrival officers located a 48 year old black male suffering from multiple stab wounds. Rockford Fire arrived and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment.
During the course of the investigation officers learned the stabbing occurred in an alley to the south of Broadway and 9th St. At the time of this posting the victim was in serious condition. No suspect information is available at this time.
Just after 2 am this morning the RFD were dispatched to the area of the 700 block of N Horsman. Scanner traffic is saying there is a possible stabbing victim near this location. Several units from the RFD are en route. Still developing

On Friday November 25th, 2016 at around 11:00 PM, Rockford Police responded to 1203 7th St in reference an aggravated battery with a firearm complaint. Upon investigation, one shell casing was found in front of the business. A local hospital called stating a gun shot victim had just arrived. A 54 year old male had sustained a gun shot wound to the head. The bullet had grazed the side of his head while he was sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot of 1203 7th St. The victim stated he was waiting for a friend to come out of the business, when he observed his friend being confronted by a group of unknown black males. The group of black males then started beating on his friend at which point the victim exited the vehicle to also confront the suspects. 3 out of the 4 black male suspects then pulled out handguns, so the victim and his friend ran back to get into their vehicle to leave. One of the black males then pointed a handgun at the vehicle and fired one round through the front windshield grazing the head of the victim. The suspects then fled on foot in an unknown direction.
The victim is at a local hospital and is in stable non-life threatening condition at this time.
Suspect 1: black male, around 6’00” tall, around 180 lbs, wearing a black hoody. In possession of a handgun fired one round.

Suspect 3: black male, unknown further. In possession of a handgun.

Multiple Weapons Violations In Rockford, On Thanksgiving

Around 1:30 pm today officers were responding to an armed robbery to a business at 1110 S Main at Delicious Bakery. A younger male armed with a gun, just robbed the bakery. ~ Via Un-Encrypted airwaves of other departments
On Wednesday November 23, 2016 around 1:30pm, Rockford Police Officers responded to the Delicious Bakery at 1110 S. Main St in reference to an armed robbery to the business. Officers learned that the suspect entered the store armed with a handgun. He pointed the gun at one of the employees before removing the cash register from the front corner. The suspect fled the store while carrying the cash register. One employee pursued the suspect until he dropped the register in the alley behind the business. The suspect was last seen riding a dark colored bicycle he had in the alley heading east on Loomis St toward the river. At the time of the robbery, there weer 3 employees in the business. No one was hurt during this robbery. The suspect was described as a Hispanic Male 5’05” to 5’07” 150lbs wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt.
Just before 12:30 there was an armed robbery at a barber shop.

The location is in the 1500 block of 7th. 2 Male blacks wearing dark clothing last seen in a black or dark green vehicle that was occupied by approx. 7 suspects. Black grand prix with tinted windows is also possibly involved. Last seen on 15th ave westbound.
On Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 1217 hours, Rockford Police Officers responded to Top-Notch Cutz located at 1535 7th St in reference to an Armed Robbery. Upon arrival, officers met with the complainant and several customers who were inside of the business during the course of the incident which was later determined to be an Aggravated Assault. The victim left the scene prior to officers arrival. Preliminary investigations indicate two black males entered the business and one of them was armed with a handgun. The armed suspect approached an adult black male customer and pointed a handgun at the customer. The suspects left the business shortly after the assault. Possible suspect vehicles are a dark green BMW SUV and dark gray sedan with tinted windows. This investigation is still on going.
On November 20th, at 6:37pm, the Rockford Police Department responded to 126 Miriam Ave in reference to a Home Invasion. Preliminary investigations revealed that after a knock on the front door the 14 year old victim opened the door to find two armed suspects. The suspects pushed their way into the residence and then confronted the adult female victim in the house. The suspects demanded cash and drugs. The victim did not have any narcotics but did hand over an undisclosed small amount of cash. The suspects then left the area. No one was injured during the incident.
The suspects were described as follows:
Black male, 6’-3”, 300 lbs., wearing blue jeans and hoodie armed with unknown type handgun
White male, 5’-11”, 160 lbs., gray sweat pants and black hoodie armed with an unknown type handgun.
