On Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at approximately 7:40 a.m., Rockford Police officers responded to the 700 block of Whitman Street for reports of a serious hit-and-run traffic crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian.
Preliminary investigations revealed that an 18-year-old male Rockford resident was crossing Whitman Street when he was struck by a westbound vehicle. The vehicle, described as a large, older tan SUV, fled the scene. The pedestrian was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Rockford Police Department Traffic Accident Reconstruction team was deployed to the scene. The investigation is ongoing and no further details are available at this time.
Whitman Street between Ridge and Winnebago will remain blocked for the next several hours.

It happened around 7:45 am this morning in the area of Whitman and Haskell .
A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle near this location and is laying in the roadway.
Injuries were being reported, unknown on the severity of the injuries at the time of writing this.
UPDATE: Life threatening injuries. The victim is a male, possibly a child/teen, via sources. The victim has severe head wounds.

Just before 11 pm emergency personnel were dispatched to a serious auto accident in the 4700 block of North Rockton.
A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle near this location possibly life threatening injuries not yet confirmed.
It appears from what we saw at the scene: The vehicle may have been traveling North on Rockton, about a quarter mile south of Elmwood when the accident happened.
Police have North Rockton blocked off at Elmwood and also at Embury, it appears this road will be closed for several hours while an investigation is completed. (Update: Police have put up barricades now)
Unconfirmed: From what we been told so far the victim is possibly a male. And the driver of the vehicle is possibly a female. The accident is under investigation.
On Saturday, June 16, 2018, at approximately 11:55 p.m., Rockford Police Department officers responded to the 2400 block of South Alpine Road for reports of a serious traffic crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a 47-year-old male Rockford resident was crossing in the midblock of S. Alpine Road when he was struck by a southbound vehicle. The driver, who is a 16-year-old male Rockford resident, remained on scene. The pedestrian was rushed to a local hospital where he was listed as critical condition.
The Rockford Police Department Traffic Accident Reconstruction team was deployed to the scene.
On June 20, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and died while in the hospital. The investigation is ongoing and no further details are available at this time
Unknown if it is related: Several sources have told us the Rockford Police were on scene doing an investigation near this accident scene, on Sunday. If it is related, the RPD believes the injuries are life threatening and possibly fatal. We will bring you updates as they become available.
Around midnight several emergency personnel were responding to a serious accident on the East side.
A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle near Alpine and Harrison.
The pedestrian is injured and is not moving. Injuries are believed to be life threatening according to a source.
Several emergency personnel are en route. Avoid this area.
