Rockford Scanner™: Grand Jury Returns An Indictment Against A Man For A Rockford Shooting




 

Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announces that a Grand Jury has returned an indictment against a man for his role in a shooting that happened late last month in Rockford.

On September 26th, 2019, at approximately 1:45am, Rockford Patrol Officers heard multiple gunshots coming from the area of Rockton Avenue and Whitman Street. Upon arrival, Officers located a suburban, traveling on Whitman that was registered to the defendant, Samuel L. Skinner (DOB: 1/21/2983).

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled the area. The vehicle was located a short time later at a residence in the 700 block of Independence Avenue. The driver was identified as Skinner, who was removed from the vehicle and searched.

The investigation was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office and Skinner was charged. He was recently indicted by a Winnebago County Grand Jury on Armed Violence, Armed Habitual Criminal, Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon and Aggravated Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Peace Officer.

Armed Violence is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release. The defendant is eligible for an extended sentence of Natural Life in the Department of Corrections for this offense.

Armed Habitual Criminal is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.

Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a year of Mandatory Supervised Release. The defendant is eligible for an extended sentence of Natural Life in the Department of Corrections for this offense.

Unlawful Possession of Weapon by a Felon is a Class 2 Felony that is punishable by an extended sentence of 3-14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by two years of Mandatory Supervised Release.

Aggravated Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Peace Officer is a Class 4 Felony that is punishable by an extended sentence of 1-6 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a year of Mandatory Supervised Release.

Skinner is currently in custody at the Winnebago County Jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment at 1:30pm on October 24th, 2019, by the Honorable Judge Brendan Maher in Courtroom B at the Winnebago County Justice Center.

The charges are merely allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Sources are reporting a bad motorcycle accident in Rockford.

It happened around 8:20 PM tonight in the area of Loomis and independence.

A motorcycle has crashed near this location and injuries are being reported. Sources at the scene said the injuries appear pretty serious. We can cannot confirm the severity of the injuries at this time. No other information is available.The cause of the accident is under investigation

 








 

Rockford Scanner™: RPD Investigating 2 Different Shots Fired Calls, No Injuries




Rockford police are investigating 2 different shots fired scenes in Rockford last night.

#1 Shots fired   in the 1000 block of N. Independence at approximately 8:30 pm last night.

#2 The other happened shortly after 9:00 pm last night in the 2800 block of Ashland Ave.

No one was hit by the gunfire. No suspect information.

Sources reporting a few scenes tonight

Sources have told us about a few scenes tonight

This first one was in the area of Newburg and Warren just before 6 pm. Sources said gunshots rang out in this area. No suspect information. Sources also reported property damage.   UPDATE from the RPD: Shots were fired but no one was injured and no property was damaged.

The second scene was in the 200 block of S Independence just after 6:30 pm tonight. Several officers were on scene investigating an “In Progress Person” call. UPDATE: RPD said this was a suspicious person call.

The 3rd scene is in the 900 block of Garfield around 6 pm. Sources said suspects forced their way into a residence and battered the occupants.  RPD has not released any information, other than they were investigating a home invasion/burglary call.

Sources are reporting a stabbing in Rockford.

It happened around 3:35 pm today near the area of Jefferson and Independence.

This is believed to be domestic related (So it probably won’t be in the call logs)

At least one person has been stabbed, unknown on the severity of the injuries.
