Elderly Man Shot in Belvidere

Sources are reporting a shooting victim in Belvidere.

It happened around 6:40 am this morning in the 200 block of Gail Court in Belvidere.  Reports of a  man has been shot near this location.

Sounds like the injuries are life threatening.

The circumstances of the shooting are not yet known.

UPDATE:  Police said the victim is 85 years old and was shot in the head. He was alive at the scene, but was transported to OSF, where he passed away.  They have not ruled out anything yet, and it is an open investigation. Belvidere Belvidere Police Chief Shane Woody said it was too early to call the death accidental, suicide or an act of foul play. The victims name has not been released, pending family notification.

Aggravated Battery w/ a Firearm: On Monday, January 7, 2019, at approximately midnight, Rockford Police officers responded to the 3100 block of Lapey Street in reference to a possible shooting. Upon arrival, officers met with the 66-year-old male victim who sustained a minor injury from gunfire striking his house several times. The victim did not seek medical treatment.
