FATAL ACCIDENT ARREST: A Rockford man is now in custody following a fatal crash. On January 21, 2019, at approximately 12:45 a.m., Rockford Police officers responded to the 1200 block of North Alpine Road for a two-vehicle accident. Upon their arrival, officers learned the male driver of a silver car was traveling northbound on North Alpine Road when he rear-ended a gray, sport utility vehicle which was also northbound on Alpine Road. The driver of the SUV, a 38-year-old Rockford man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is not being released at this time. The passenger of the silver car was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The Rockford Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Unit conducted a follow-up investigation which revealed speed and alcohol as factors in the accident. The driver of the silver car, the at-fault vehicle, was identified as 25-year-old Joshua Thomas. The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and authorized the charges below. A warrant was obtained, and on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, Thomas was taken into custody.

Thomas was lodged in the Winnebago County Jail. The charges against Thomas are merely accusations, and he is considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.


Sources are reporting a fatal accident on the East side.

It happened just before 1 am near the 1200 block of N Alpine.

A vehicle rolled over and caught on fire.  The person inside has passed away.

Others were able to get out, and need medical assistance.

Still developing. Sounds like this area will be blocked off for several hours.

Source said he witnessed a vehicle excessively speeding (Possibly over 100 mph) when the accident happened. A Silver vehicle possibly a Sanata  hit a Jeep. 

Police are denying any chases.

RPD says a Silver car and a Gray SUV were northbound on Alpine when the car rear-ended the SUV.  The driver of the SUV was the one who passed away on scene.  Passenger of the car was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries, and the driver of the car was transported with non life threatening injuries.  They said speed was a factor in the accident.

Rockford Scanner™: Another Delivery Driver Robbed, During A Rash Of Recent Delivery Driver Robberies



On 8/19/18 at 10:22 p.m. the Rockford Police Department responded to the 2000 block of S. 5th St for an armed robbery to a delivery driver. The victim was making a delivery when he was approached by three suspects who were armed with a handgun. The suspects demanded and took the food and money before fleeing the area westbound on foot. The victim was not injured.

The suspects were described as follows:

Suspect 1 – Black male, 6’0”, 180 lbs, mid 20’s, wearing a black hat and a black or gray jacket armed with a handgun.

Suspect 2 – Black male, 5’9”, 160 lbs, mid 20’s, short black hair, wearing a black t-shirt and jeans.

Suspect 3 – Black male, 5’9”, 150 lbs, mid 20’s, wearing a black hoodie and jeans.


Sources are reporting another delivery driver has been robbed in Rockford. 

It happened on the East side, near 2027 S 5th st

Suspects are described as 2 black males around 20 years old around 6 feet. Last seen on foot westbound. 

There has been a rash of violent attacks and robberies to delivery drivers in the Rockford area recently.

Sources are reporting the Rockford Police are investigating a couple of armed robberies 

The first one is near the area on Preston and Johnston. 

Second one is near the area of the 2700 block of Arthur ave. 

Sources said these are possibly related. 

Third robbery happened near the 3200 block of Auburn st

RPD has yet to release information on these.
