Drive By Shooting & Auto Accident With injuries in Rockford

lask-roofing

On Saturday October 22, 2016 at around 6:50 pm officers responded to the area of Ridge Ave. and Ashland Ave. in reference to a report of shots fired.  Upon arrival officers located several spent shell casings in the roadway.

A witnesses in the area told police he saw a black sports utility vehicle (SUV), possibly a Jeep Cherokee, and another silver colored vehicle travelling northbound in the 1100 block of Ridge Ave. and that someone inside the black SUV was shooting at the silver vehicle.

While officers were at the Ridge Ave. and Ashland Ave. scene other officers responded to a traffic crash at Auburn St. and Ridge Ave. and determined one of the vehicles involved in the crash was the silver vehicle being shot at on Ridge Ave.  Officers found several bullet holes in the silver vehicle.  The other vehicle involved in the collision was a commercial tow-truck.  Officers determined the tow-truck was not involved in the shots fired incident.

The silver vehicle was occupied by the driver, a 28 year old Rockford man and one (1) passenger, a 25 year old Rockford woman.  Neither had been struck by gunfire.  The driver was not injured but the passenger sustained minor injuries from the crash.  Rockford Fire Department Paramedics transported her to an area hospital for treatment.  The driver of the tow-truck, a 19 year old Rockford man, was not injured.

The driver and passenger of the silver vehicle told police they were driving northbound on Ridge Ave. when they heard gunshots and immediately realized they were being shot at by someone in the vehicle behind them.  While trying to get away they collided with the tow-truck.

The driver and passenger of the silver vehicle told police they did not know who the suspect/shooter was nor did they have any idea why they were shooting at them.

No arrests at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.

Around 6:54 pm tonight the RFD were dispatched to the area of Auburn and Ridge. Scanner traffic is saying there is a drive by shooting near this location. Also an auto accident.  It is not yet known if the 2 incidents are related. Injuries were reported at the accident scene. Unknown on injuries from the drive by shooting. Still developing.

RPD is encrypted, so no suspect information
