Update: Reports are saying no students on the bus were injured. But the occupants of the vehicle did sustain injuries. The bus was rear ended by a vehicle. From the looks of the photo that was sent to us, a vehicle rear ended another vehicle, then it rear ended the bus (Obviously not confirmed) . The cause of the accident is under investigation
Several sources are reporting a bad accident that involves a school bus.
Reports of numerous emergency personnel on scene and the roads are shut down in the area.
Multiple injuries were being reported, unknown on the severity of the injuries.
On Newburg between Belvidere and Cherry Valley. Road closed both ways.
Sources are reporting a major traffic jam on I-90.
Sources said there is traffic backed up for several miles and is almost at a stand still on I-90. Near Magic Waters area.
We been told they were repairing pot holes and that was causing the delay in traffic.
You may want to avoid I-90 for awhile, because it don’t sound like it will be clearing up anytime soon. We been told by several sources that traffic was backed up for at least 6 miles, but not confirmed.
UPDATE: Police have confirmed a weapons violation at the Cherryvale Mall. They pulled over a vehicle they said they thought was possibly involved in the Menards parking lot and conducted a felony traffic stop and detained several subjects. They would not confirm any shooting victims at this time.
Sources are reporting a scene near Cherry Valley.
It happened around 3:30 pm today near the Menards on Perryville.
Several police had their guns drawn on a Red vehicle.
It is not yet known exactly what happened.
Sources said an incident happened at the mall and police were able to detain several of the alleged suspects near Menards
Police have taken Donald Ashford Jr. into custody on Tuesday March 5th 2019 and has been booked into the Winnebago County Jail around noon. His next court appearance is March 19th at 9am.
On October 8th, 2016, just after 3:00pm, Cherry Valley Police were called to the south parking lot of the CherryVale Mall after reports of a shooting. Officers located one male victim, who had been shot outside of the JCPenney’s store. The victim was taken to the hospital, treated and released. Detectives conducted a follow-up investigation which was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office and charges were authorized against Donald Ashford, Jr.
Donald Ashford, Jr. (D.O.B. 8/26/1994) was indicted on four counts of Attempt First Degree Murder, two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, one count of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and six counts of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon charges.
Attempt First Degree Murder is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a minimum of 21 years to Natural Life in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Aggravated Battery with a Firearm is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon is a Class 2 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 3-7 years in the Illinois department of Corrections followed by a year of Mandatory Supervised Release
Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon is a Class 3 Felony that is punishable by a special sentence of 2-10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a year of Mandatory Supervised Release.
The charges are merely allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
