(AP) — The judge is rebuffing claims that a youth football coach brandished a gun during a fight with parents, and he agreed to set lower bonds for both men arrested during the melee.

Forty-three-year-old Terrance Morris of Valparaiso, Indiana, and 39-year-old Devorah Clark of Merrillville, Indiana, are facing felony charges stemming from the Saturday fight in Rockford.

They were coaches for the Calumet City Thunderbolts when a postgame fight broke out with Rockford Renegades coaches and parents.

The Rockford Register Star reports three witnesses told police they saw Clark with a gun, but Judge Francis Martinez said during a hearing Tuesday that the weapon was found in Clark’s car.

A prosecutor sought $50,000 bonds for both men. Martinez set a $25,000 bond for Clark and $5,000 for Morris.

COACHES ARRESTED: On Saturday, October 6, 2018 at approximately 3:00 p.m., Rockford Police officers responded to reports of a large fight at Rockford Lutheran High School (3411 N. Alpine Road) with at least one armed suspect on scene. Officers learned that at the conclusion of a football game, Calumet City Thunderbolts coaches were involved in an argument with Rockford Renegades coaches and parents. It escalated to one parent striking a coach. No students were involved in the argument.

A Calumet City coach, identified as Terrance Morris, displayed a firearm which sent crowds of people running. No shots were fired. Officers subsequently took Morris and another coach, Devorah Clark, into custody. During the course of the investigation, officers recovered a firearm.

The Rockford Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance with the investigation. Anyone with information should call 815-966-2900.

Upon further review, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the below listed charges against the suspects.

Terrance Morris, 43, Indiana. – Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Mob Action

Devorah Clark, 39, Indiana. – Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Mob Action, Obstructing Identification, Resisting Arrest

Morris and Clark were lodged in the Winnebago County Jail. The charges against the men are merely accusations. Morris and Clark are considered innocent unless proven guilty in court of law. The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time
