On Thursday, October 21, 2021, at approximately 5:10 p.m., Rockford Police SCOPE officers observed a vehicle in the area of West and Cunningham Streets that was listed as stolen out of Oak Lawn, Illinois.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle when the front passenger fled on foot.

The passenger, later identified as Vantrell Keys, was apprehended after a brief foot chase.

The driver, Jerome Davidson, was taken into custody without incident.

Officers located and recovered a loaded handgun inside the vehicle.


The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the facts of the investigation and authorized the charges listed below.
