Update: RPD Does A Press Conference On This Mornings Officer Involved Shooting.

ROCKFORD, IL – On Thursday, September 16, 2021, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Rockford Police officers were in the area of S. 3rd and Pope Streets when they heard one clear and distinct gunshot, from close range. One of the officer’s squads was struck and the bullet entered the passenger side door of the vehicle.

The officer, who is a 4-year veteran of the Rockford Police Department, felt a sharp pain in his side, however the bullet did not penetrate the ballistic vest and was later located on the floorboard of the vehicle

. The officer was uninjured, but was checked out at a local hospital as a precaution.

Rockford Police are only confirming a “shooting investigation” at this time.

We have numerous reports saying an officer has been shot.
Sounds like the officers bulletproof vest may have saved the officer, from the reports were are getting.

UPDATE: Sources told us, Shot through the door and hit the officer in the side

Rockford PD has not confirmed an officer was involved.

Last we have been told, the suspect was still on the loose.

RPD has not released any suspect information…

We have numerous reports that an officer was involved in an auto accident, while responding to this call.
The accident happened near 2nd and Jefferson.

Sources are reporting a shooting that happened at approximately 1:00 this morning in the area of S 3rd Street and Pope Street.

There is a very large police presence at this time, please avoid the area.

It is unknown at this time what the severity of injuries is from this shooting. No one was reported to be transported by the ambulance on scene.
