Rockford Scanner™: Murder In Beloit

The City of Beloit Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred Tuesday morning at 6:21 a.m. in the 1000 block of 10th Street. We were called to the scene for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, the victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect and the victim had a verbal disagreement, which is when the suspect shot the victim. This homicide was witnessed by others who are cooperating with the investigation and positively identified the suspect.
The City of Beloit Police Department will not be identifying the homicide victim as victims and their families have a constitutional right to privacy. The victim is a 50-year-old Beloit male.
Responding officers did a tremendous job with the investigation and located the suspect on the Portland Avenue bridge. Officers observed the suspect drop an object over the bridge into the water before he was taken into custody. Other agencies are assisting our department to search the Rock River for evidence.
The suspect is a 34-year-old male, Mario T. Tucker, who was living in Beloit at the location of the homicide for less than a week. He was previously living in Janesville and Minnesota.
Capt. Andre Sayles shared this information with the public during a news conference this afternoon. We send our sincerest condolence to the victim’s family and loved ones.
